Slim profile

Slim profile describes a version of a common product, like a storage cart, trash can or shelving unit, built narrower than the standard size specifically to fit tight gaps such as the space beside a refrigerator, a galley kitchen aisle or a narrow hallway. It trades some capacity for the ability to fit somewhere a standard-width version simply can't.

The measurement that matters most for slim profile products is the width, since that's the whole point of the category, but depth and height still need checking against the specific gap you're targeting. A cart marketed as slim can still be too deep to roll past a doorway or too tall to fit under a counter overhang.

Because these products fit narrower spaces, they're often used to add storage or function to areas that would otherwise sit completely empty, like the six-inch gap beside a stove or the strip of floor next to a toilet. Measuring the actual gap, including any door swing or drawer clearance nearby, before buying prevents the common mistake of a slim item still being a poor fit for its intended spot.
