Under-bed storage
Low containers or drawers that slide beneath a bed frame, using space many small apartments waste entirely.
Under-bed storage refers to shallow bins, rolling drawers or vacuum-sealed bags designed to fit into the gap between the floor and the bottom of a bed frame. It's one of the few storage zones in a small apartment that adds zero visible footprint to the room, since it's hidden the entire time.
The gap itself is the deciding factor before buying anything. Bed frame clearance varies enormously, from roughly 4 inches on some platform beds to well over a foot on frames with tall legs, and a container that's an inch too tall simply won't slide in, so measuring the actual gap comes before choosing a bin size.
Once the fit is confirmed, the best use of the space is for things accessed occasionally rather than daily, like out-of-season clothing, spare bedding or bulky items that would otherwise compete for closet space. Rolling bins with wheels make retrieval easier on hard floors, while flat vacuum bags work better on carpet or for pure volume reduction. Labeling each bin from the front, rather than the lid, also saves time later, since most of them end up pushed too far back to see the top clearly.
